Ohio Needs ActBlue - Please Help

A number of months ago, there was an initial push to get ActBlue rolled out to the state level offices.  There was a poll and five states were chosen.  After that initial push, ActBlue raised about $1,400 for Ohio and then a long lull.

Christmas Under Attack ... By Murdock???

My wife and I are big Harry Potter fans since we listened to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on audio tape during our 2001 summer vacation.

We, like millions of others, are breathlessly awaiting the release of book six:  Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.  I read several blogs dedicated to all things Potter including MuggleNet and The Leaky Cauldron.

Picture my surpise to be taken to a link in Rupert Murdock's British Sun tabloid to read an article speculating on a Christmas day notification of Book 6's release date.  The headline in the article is:

Will it be a Harry Xmas?
and the caption under the picture of the author is:
JK Rowling ... Xmas surprise?
Hmmm ... isn't it Rupert Murdock's organs that are telling us that Christmas is under attack and then they use the term which I personally hate (I am a preacher's kid, after all) in place of Christmas?

Those Damned Greedy Old People

Sitting here typing a letter to my brother-in-law and I have The Beltway Boys (Fox News) on my TiVo in the background. Fred Barnes is discussing what's wrong with Social Security.

"The way I think the White House wants to deal with it is to hold the growth, well above inflation, of Social Security benefits. In other words, and say look anybody that we will guarantee the current level of benefits but not this growth beyond inflation which has been has made has put Social Security in such a financial hole all these years."

Cue Mort Kondracke doing what he does best on this show. Chin out, staring at Fred and nodding, the little lap dog.

Earlier this evening, I spoke with my 80 year old Mom. She gets $434.00 from Social Security each month. Her "raise" (as she laughingly calls it every year) will be a whopping $1.00. That's a whopping 0.23% increase. I'm not even going to bother looking into inflation in 2004. I somehow expect it was above one quarter of one percent.

The long knives are out for this program and Charles Schwab is just licking his chops for the business.

Friday's Job Report

As we all know, Friday's jobs report was another disappointment ... only 112,000 in the month of November and major revisions to both October and September.  A number of blogs refered to the fact that this number didn't keep up with population growth and that got me thinking about the comment that "George W. Bush is on track to be the first President since Hoover not to create one net job" that we have all heard.

Well ... that's not really true if you factor in population growth (and how can we not?)
